Futura City of 2050: A Vision of Tomorrow
Overall Design Ideas:
The future of humanity will be determined by our ability to deal with
environmental crisis. The future city I have designed is eco-friendly
and uses visionary concepts to revolutionize daily life. These concepts
include increased used of nuclear and clean coal technologies, rooftop
gardens serving as filtration systems, new architectural designs, and
new environmentally friendly concepts.
Futurian Living Spaces:
In the 2000’s, overly spacious dwellings hindered nature and restricted
ecosystems. Using the principle of vertical building and arcology
technology, humanity lives in self-sufficient buildings, each with large
open and enclosed spaces. Sun-and-roof gardens are popular and are
a source of food for each building. Developments in life support and
design have made arcologies feasible. Arcologies are now used
extensively.
Futurian Energy:
Humanity in 2050 will, with the current growth rate, needs at least
25% more electricity than the current electrical system it’s producing.
In the 2000’s, the electricity grid has been strained to the limit.
Electricity production is seriously endangered, for its primary resources
are running out. Therefore, in 2050, humanity will have turned to
alternate energy for its needs. Solar farms, with efficiency maximized,
will produce hundreds of megawatts of electricity. In addition,
electricity is used less, with special lights, which use reflective mirrors
to double light output. These bulbs are 40% more efficient than
compact fluorescent light bulbs. The energy for Futura has changed
greatly since the 2000’s.
Futurian Transport:
Back in the 2000’s, humanity relied on polluting cars for transport.
These were an environmental disaster, producing carbon dioxide and
leaching tons of toxic chemicals and wasting valuable iron and steel
ore. In 2050, however, the future is interconnected, with walking as
the primary tool of transport. However, for movement over long
distances, new ultra-efficient, high-capacity transport pods have been
developed, each carrying 100 passengers. Roads are now virtually
completely clear of traffic, except for emergency vehicles, which are
given their own special pods. Skywalks are now the primary
connections between buildings.
Futurian Food Production:
In the 2000’s, food prices were rising rapidly, and starvation was
endemic. Arcologies will become agricultural units as well as living
spaces. In addition to the fields, corn, wheat, and other plants will
grow on wall and rooftop gardens, serving as a natural air purification
system by removing carbon dioxide and replacing it with oxygen.
Supermarkets no longer rely on farmers, but on their own rooftop
gardens to supply food. Most buildings will have rooftop gardens,
which will serve as filtration systems and food sources. |
